ED Tech - Night Shift

Assists the healthcare team in delivering patient care by performing tasks such as phlebotomy, patient transport, cardiac and vital sign monitoring, wound care, Foley catheter insertion, and lab specimen collection. May perform IV starts where permitted by state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Documents procedures and patient information, promptly communicating observations, concerns, and needs to the registered nurse.
• Processes daily patient charges and related procedures through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Collaborates with physicians to facilitate patient care, coordinating all forms of communication (phone, verbal, paging, electronic, fax, and EMS system).
• Maintains a clean and safe working environment, adhering to department safety policies and standard precautions.
• Monitors and troubleshoots equipment, arranging repairs for major malfunctions.
• Performs patient positioning and transporting duties, including lifting and pushing/pulling while using proper technique.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, assessing and interpreting patient data to meet specific needs across the lifespan.

Requirements

• Nurse Aide in good standing with the State Registry, or
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic license issued through national registry or by the state, or
• Completion of an accredited or approved Medical Assistant program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within 6 months unless exempted by department leadership.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Typically requires 1 year of relevant experience.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with physicians, staff, patients, and families.
• Ability to maintain required certifications and recertifications as mandated by regulations and the organization.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills.
• High attention to detail.

Skills

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during the work shift.
• Lifting requirements:
  • Up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
  • Up to 20 lbs overhead.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
• Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
• Must be able to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with assistance from a second person.
• Frequent use of foot pedals on carts or machines.
• Continuous exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and blood/body fluid hazards.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, gowns) as needed.
• Must have functional sight and hearing.
• Operates all necessary job-related equipment.
