Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of psychiatric nursing and physical assessment skills, acquired through two years of college education in nursing.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, maintained throughout tenure in the position.
  • Knowledge of nursing process and physical assessment, gained through one to two years of inpatient psychiatric nursing, including regular practice of physical assessment skills and demonstrated teaching skills.
  • High level of analytical abilities to identify nursing care problems during ECT procedures (pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, staff, other departments, disciplines, families, and physicians (51-80% of work time).
  • Ability to work with severely ill psychiatric patients, managing high levels of stress and mental fatigue (51-80% of work time).
  • Functional abilities: talking, hearing, mid-range vision, and field of vision.
