About the role

The Department of Biological Science at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a Part-Time Lecturer Pool. The pool will be used to fill temporary, part-time positions teaching in the following subject areas: General Biology (lecture or lab), Plant Biology (lecture or lab), Plant Ecology (lecture or lab), Biogeography, Marine Ecology (lecture or lab), Desert Ecology (lecture or lab), Coastal Ecology (lecture or lab), Behavioral Ecology, Mammalogy, Ornithology, Ichthyology, Herpetology (lecture or lab), and Conservation Biology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom instruction.
  • Prepare course materials and administer assignments to students.
  • Administer examinations, grade student work, and determine course grades.
  • Hold scheduled office hours.
  • Attend all weekly lab preparatory meetings.
  • Participate in all class field trips, if applicable.
  • Complete all necessary trainings.
  • Attend Lecturer Meetings.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's or PhD degree in Botany, Ecology, Marine Biology, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level.
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Significant teaching experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Relevant performance and professional experience.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may be offered employment on very short notice.

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation highlighting experience in or potential for teaching.

Compensation

All part-time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Classification Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.

About the Department and the College

The Department of Biological Science offers an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Biological Science and a thesis-based Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Biology. The undergraduate curriculum provides all biology majors with broad exposure to fundamental biological principles and depth of knowledge within a specialized area of concentration chosen by the student. Our graduate degree prepares students for entry into Ph.D. and health-professions programs, research careers with governmental and non-governmental agencies and in the private sector, and teaching at the two-year college level. Our program is distinctive in the region in the number of excellent opportunities that are available for faculty-mentored undergraduate research and a commitment to integrating teaching and research.
