About the role
The ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) Specialist is a professional registered nurse or certified or registered respiratory therapist who operates and maintains the ECMO Circuit for patients requiring extracorporeal support for long-term pulmonary or cardiac support.
Responsibilities
- Functions independently under the direction of the ECMO physician, following standing ECMO orders and guidelines.
- Available to take call on 24-hour basis as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of all areas/patient populations where ECMO is initiated and maintained.
Requirements
- Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications: Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
- Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
- Registered Respiratory Therapist and Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Certified Respiratory Therapist and Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Basic Life Support
- Education with Equivalent Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Nursing in Nursing or Bachelors of Science or Arts in Nursing
- Experience with Equivalent Qualifications: 1 Year Staff Level
Qualifications
- Ability to use medical equipment, patient records, reports, and computer.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Skills
- Knowledge of pediatric ECMO procedures and protocols.
