ECMO Specialist

About the role

The ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) Specialist is a professional registered nurse or certified or registered respiratory therapist who operates and maintains the ECMO Circuit for patients requiring extracorporeal support for long-term pulmonary or cardiac support.

Responsibilities

• Functions independently under the direction of the ECMO physician, following standing ECMO orders and guidelines.
• Available to take call on 24-hour basis as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of all areas/patient populations where ECMO is initiated and maintained.

Requirements

• Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications: Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
• Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
• Registered Respiratory Therapist and Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Certified Respiratory Therapist and Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Basic Life Support
• Education with Equivalent Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Nursing in Nursing or Bachelors of Science or Arts in Nursing
• Experience with Equivalent Qualifications: 1 Year Staff Level

Qualifications

• Ability to use medical equipment, patient records, reports, and computer.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric ECMO procedures and protocols.
