About the role
The ECMO Specialist is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) and experienced clinician who operates extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) equipment at the bedside in the ICU. This role provides care for patients undergoing ECMO support to ensure high-quality, patient- and family-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Operate ECMO equipment in the ICU environment
- Provide skilled care for patients undergoing ECMO support
- Apply thorough understanding of extracorporeal physiology, patient selection, disease processes, and management
- Perform emergency troubleshooting of ECMO systems
- Maintain current certifications and education as required by the ECMO Coordinator
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited RN program
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience in acute critical care
- ECMO experience preferred
- Healthcare CPR and ACLS certification required
- Completion of a preceptorship program
