St. Pius X Catholic School is seeking a full-time EC–5 Elementary Teacher for the 2026–27 school year. The school maintains a long-standing tradition of love, education, moral development, and spirituality.

About the Role

The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The position reports to the Principal and supports the policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Follows safety training and protocols to ensure the well-being of students and staff.
  • Protects the confidentiality of sensitive information, including student records, donor details, and internal investigations.
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy.
  • Takes a solution-oriented approach in interactions and promotes collaboration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Instructional Strategies

  • Develops and implements lesson plans aligned with the school’s curriculum program.
  • Prepares lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Presents subject matter according to Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative guidelines.
  • Uses appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials tailored to student needs.
  • Conducts assessments of student learning styles and adjusts instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborates with staff to determine instructional goals and methods.
  • Plans and supervises teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Integrates technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Student Growth and Development

  • Helps students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities.
  • Serves as a positive role model for students and supports the mission of Catholic education.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and student development.
  • Manages student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assists in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.

Communication

  • Establishes and maintains open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintains professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
  • Uses effective communication skills to present information clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participates in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Stays informed of and complies with Department of Catholic Schools regulations and policies.
  • Maintains and files required reports, records, and documents.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate per Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.
  • Technology proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet use for education, and multimedia presentations.
  • Demonstrated competency in the assigned subject area(s).
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of assigned subject area.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or on a team.
  • Good written and verbal skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • May be required to work some weekends and nights.
  • Must work a full school day.
