About the Role

The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. This position is immediately responsible to the Principal for carrying out the policies of St. Pius X Catholic School and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the classroom and interactions with students and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others.
  • Protects the confidentiality of client information, services rendered, donor details, investigations, and financial information.
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy.
  • Takes a solution-oriented approach and promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Instructional Strategies

  • Develops and implements lesson plans that fulfill the school’s curriculum program with written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations.
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
  • Conducts assessments of student learning styles and uses results to plan instructional activities.
  • Works with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Plans and supervises assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Uses technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process.

Student Growth and Development

  • Helps students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Sponsors outside activities approved by the principal.
  • Serves as a positive role model for students and supports the mission of Catholic education.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manages student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

  • Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participates in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keeps informed of and complies with Department of Catholic Schools regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all required reports, records, and documents.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.
  • Technology proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet use for educational purposes, and multimedia presentations.
  • Demonstrated competency in the assigned subject area(s).
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.

Schedule

  • Full-time position for the 26-27 school year.
  • Required to work a minimum of a full school day.
  • May be required to work some weekends and nights.
