About the role
The position is Hybrid, working 3 days per week in the office/market with flexible scheduling. The successful candidate will be the primary touchpoint for the Business Times in the East Bay, covering the commercial real estate industry and other key sectors.
Responsibilities
- Establish yourself as the go-to source for news, data, and perspective in the East Bay.
- Own the beat, developing a comprehensive understanding of the local business landscape and its key players.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with high-level executives and community leaders.
- Identify and report on newsworthy events and scoop competitors on significant stories.
- Create compelling content for the Business Journal's website and weekly print edition.
- Leverage multimedia skills to produce video, photos, and other forms of content.
- Manage relationships and sources to differentiate the organization from competitors.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Strong analytical and investigative-interviewing skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Comfortable interacting with a wide range of people, in-person, on the phone, and online.
- A clear drive to develop sources and build audience.
- Understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics, and story structure.
- Multimedia skills, including video, photos, broadcast, on-camera, and other relevant skills.
- Familiarity with East Bay business trends and current residency in the East Bay.
Qualifications
- Desire and ability to break news and identify newsworthy events and sources.
- Strong understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics, and story structure.
- Experience with MS Office Products and proficiency with web-based communication platforms.
- Familiarity with East Bay business trends is desired, and current East Bay residency is preferred.
Skills
- Strong traditional journalism skills, including source building, sharp interviewing techniques, and clear writing.
- Online and social media know-how to build a thriving digital news operation.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to relate comfortably to a wide range of people, in person, on the phone, and online.
