Pay: Classroom Assistant $17.04/hour, EC Facilitator (PG 16 >60) $17.72/hour

About the role

Assist the early childhood teacher in the classroom with the implementation of the daily curriculum and in caring for the children’s needs. This role involves supporting the teacher with activities, managing transitions, and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for young children.

Responsibilities

  • Support the teacher with planned activities by leading small or large groups of children.
  • Address individual concerns for children.
  • Aid in the drop-off and pick-up of children and manage their movement in and out of the classroom.
  • Facilitate transitions and actively engage with children throughout the day.
  • For full-day assistants, plan and implement daily activities as required.
  • Understand appropriate developmental milestones for three- to five-year-olds.
  • Implement discipline techniques as outlined in the handbook.
  • Attend required training sessions to stay updated on best practices.
  • Perform any other tasks as requested by the supervisor to support the classroom environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Familiarity with Francis Howell Preschool policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow the teacher’s direction and assist in planning classroom activities.
  • Strong organizational skills, oral and written communication abilities, and a desire to work with young children.
  • Flexibility and the capability to maintain positive relationships with both adults and children.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.

Physical demands

The role involves frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting. Physical tasks associated with supporting early childhood education are required.

Work environment

The setting is a classroom designed for young children. The Assistant will work alongside a teacher, a parent helper, and preschool-age children.

About the Early Childhood Facilitator role

Hours: 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm

Plans, develops, and facilitates services and activities within the Preschool Program. This role involves creating a safe and engaging environment, addressing operational issues, and providing recommendations for program improvements. The Facilitator also offers support and guidance to staff, children, and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Customize lesson plans and activities to meet individualized learning plans and other student needs.
  • Collaborate with site staff, district personnel, children, parents, and the community to enhance academic outcomes and meet classroom objectives.
  • Provide clear information and direction about plans, activities, and schedules to staff, children, and parents.
  • Create age-appropriate activities (e.g., physical activities, self-expression, arts, crafts) for hands-on learning and socialization.
  • Demonstrate appropriate social and interpersonal behavior, including the use of materials, conversation, manners, and listening skills.
  • Organize and maintain a safe, secure, and inviting environment for children.
  • Attend staff meetings and other related gatherings to exchange necessary information.
  • Actively participate in children’s activities to build relationships and provide positive guidance.
  • Design and implement daily fun, hands-on learning activities.
  • Compile reports and documentation to comply with program requirements and communicate with staff and parents.
  • Address and report incidents such as fights, suspected abuse, and discipline issues to ensure safety and policy adherence.
  • Act promptly in emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and refer to appropriate personnel.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide assistance related to program activities.

Requirements

  • High School degree.
  • Job-related experience is desired.
  • Proficiency in adapting lesson plans, collaborating with diverse groups, and communicating effectively.
  • Ability to manage tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and work with a variety of individuals and data.
