Hours: 10:30 am–6:00 pm (Early Childhood Classroom Assistant) / 3:30 pm–5:30 pm (Early Childhood Facilitator)
Pay: Classroom Assistant – $16.41/hr (under 60 credits), $17.04/hr (60+ credits); Facilitator – $17.72/hr (60+ credits)
About the Role
Assist the early childhood teacher in implementing the daily curriculum and caring for children’s needs. Support classroom activities, manage transitions, and maintain a safe, engaging environment for preschoolers.
The Early Childhood Facilitator plans, develops, and leads program services and activities, ensuring a safe and enriching setting while collaborating with staff, parents, and the community.
Responsibilities
- Support the teacher with planned activities, leading small or large groups of children.
- Address individual needs of children during drop-off, pick-up, and transitions.
- Engage with children throughout the day, facilitating smooth transitions and participation.
- For full-day assistants, plan and implement daily classroom activities.
- Understand developmental milestones for 3–5-year-olds and apply discipline techniques per program guidelines.
- Attend required training sessions to stay updated on best practices.
- Customize lesson plans to meet individualized learning needs and classroom objectives.
- Collaborate with staff, district personnel, parents, and the community to enhance outcomes.
- Communicate plans, activities, and schedules clearly to staff, children, and parents.
- Develop and lead age-appropriate activities (e.g., arts, crafts, physical play) for hands-on learning.
- Model appropriate social behaviors, including conversation, manners, and material use.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and inviting classroom environment.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in children’s activities to build relationships.
- Design and implement daily fun, hands-on learning experiences.
- Prepare reports and documentation for program compliance and communication.
- Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, discipline issues) and respond to emergencies.
- Provide information and assistance related to program activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma (required).
- Familiarity with Francis Howell Preschool policies and procedures.
- Ability to follow teacher directions and assist in planning classroom activities.
- Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Desire to work with young children and maintain positive relationships with adults and children.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Previous experience working with children (preferred).
- Job-related experience (desired for Facilitator role).
- Proficiency in adapting lesson plans, collaborating with diverse groups, and effective communication.
Physical Demands
The role involves frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting associated with early childhood education support.
Work Environment
