About the role

The Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) is offering postgraduate fellowships. These clinical systems fellowships provide an outstanding training opportunity and will be located at the Defense Health Headquarters, Falls Church VA, and Walter Reed Hospital as well as the Center for the Intrepid (CFI) in San Antonio, TX.

What will I be doing?

As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to conduct life-changing research across the nation with EACE. You will be provided a hands-on, collaborative experience to take an early-stage project from initiation to analysis to a fielded system in a short period of time. The knowledge gained will provide you a highly desired skill set in the area of clinical systems analysis.

    • Designing customized graphic user interfaces supporting the CAMP staff with the development and implementation of reports required at multiple levels of leadership (clinic, facility, enterprise).
    • Leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize efficacy of documentation, maximize clinician adoption, and ensure consistent integration of measure results across patient interactions (history, assessment, plan of care, goals and serial reassessments to discharge).

What is the anticipated start date?

EACE is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What is the appointment length?

This appointment is a 12-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

What are the provisions?

  • You will receive a stipend to be determined by EACE. Interested applicants should anticipate an annual stipend range between $19,900.00 and $84,700.00 depending on academic level and related course/lab work.

About EACE

The DoD and VA Extremity Trauma & Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) consists of teams embedded at the point of care within multiple world renowned Military Treatment Facilities across the nation, i.e. Walter Reed. In-line with the congressionally directed mission of the EACE, our clinical team focuses on development of clinical outcomes assessment, clinical practice guidelines, and treatment protocols. We are developing a novel system for extremity trauma outcome measures tracking. We focus on traumatic extremity injuries and amputations with a specific focus on tracking outcomes for clinical assessment to improve the care of injured Service members and Veterans.

About ORISE

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.
