About the role

The Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) is offering a postdoctoral opportunity located at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC)/Center for the Intrepid (CFI) in San Antonio, TX. EACE is the leading advocate for research and treatment of Department of War (DoW) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) patients with extremity trauma and amputation. The EACE leads efforts to enhance collaboration between the DoW and the VA extremity trauma and amputation care providers and conduct scientific research to minimize the effects of traumatic injuries and improve clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in research activities with the Senior Scientist for the CFI Military Performance Laboratory, conducting translational research to enable readiness and return Service members to high function after extremity trauma (e.g. amputation, complex limb salvage, tibia fractures).
  • Gain hands-on experience in the clinical care of patients with musculoskeletal trauma.
  • Expand research knowledge in musculoskeletal injuries that will advance the care for Service members with amputation.
  • Collect and process human motion capture data.
  • Gain experience on multiple projects involving lower limb amputation.
  • Learn about grant proposal development and submission.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or having completed a PhD from an accredited institution in Rehabilitation, Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a closely related field within the last five years.
  • Pass and obtain the appropriate security clearance at the Brooke Army Medical Center through background checks.
  • Experience with mathematical and computer modeling & simulation, mechanics, multi-physics numerical simulations, sensor technologies.
  • Experience with human subjects testing.
  • Ability to meet physical demands in a variety of settings including laboratory, hospital and office.
  • Ability to be organized and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or experience in one or more of the following:

  • Ability to meet physical demands in a variety of settings including laboratory, hospital and office.

Pay

EACE is prepared to make appointments immediately, pending the review of applications and the selection of a candidate. This appointment is a full-time, 8-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
