About the role
Black & Veatch is seeking a qualified and experienced Electrical & Instrumentation QC Inspector to assure the quality of craft personnel and subcontractors' installed product meets all project requirements as depicted within the plans, specifications, and cited codes.
Responsibilities
- Assure work on-site meets applicable codes and specifications.
- Safely observe and carefully prepare inspection reports with photos and illustrations.
- Perform task assignments for the MOPO, Shutdown, Commissioning, and Start-Up Teams.
- Conduct surveillance/audits of site craft personnel and/or subcontractor Quality Control Programs.
- Review and control documentation for the certification of construction equipment and testing equipment.
- Review turnover packages prior to Commissioning Startup handoff.
- Perform surveillance of General and Electrical production teams’ installations related to Medium Voltage Electrical, Process Control Instrumentation, SCADA, and MODCOM.
- Inspect conduit support racks, conduit installation, control piping, tubing, wiring, instruments, valves, SCADA and communication systems, and all related equipment.
- Conduct visual and analytical inspection of equipment to verify proper operation.
- Assist in the coordination of punch list walkdowns/inspections; establish and manage the punch list.
- Act in the capacity of a "lead person" without direct management responsibility.
Requirements
- 3+ years as Superintendent with a degree, or 5+ years without a degree.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical Inspection experience in Heavy Commercial, Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Nuclear, Military, or Treatment Plant fields.
- Experience with projects including Treatment, Power, Hydro Plants, and Industrial Facilities.
- Non-Inspection Electrical Experience as a certified QEW in Heavy Commercial, Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Nuclear, or Military fields.
- B.S. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering preferred with 4+ years of construction experience.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances in confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
- Repetitive movement and work above 5 feet in height.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and outdoor conditions.
- Work in cramped spaces, awkward positions, and extreme temperatures (above 90°F or below 32°F).
- Exposure to inclement weather, bright or low lighting, and loud or uncomfortable noise levels.
- Work around hazardous equipment in both construction site and office environments.
