About the Role

The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician assists the Wink Manager Operations and the Operations and Engineering teams in daily terminal and pipeline operations. Provides technical expertise and guidance with respect to the maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of all instrumentation & electrical equipment. Supervises and coordinates contract workers in these disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in the development, maintenance & upgrades for SCADA and PLC software programming.
  • Communicates with operational personnel regarding maintenance or changes to area equipment (including SCADA controls).
  • Assists in maintenance and day-to-day troubleshooting of Top Tech, HMI, SCADA & Tank View or other systems with knowledge of communication protocols RS 232/485 Modbus.
  • Schedules preventative maintenance for instrumentation/electrical equipment (Maximo).
  • Assists with planning and executing tasks using Maximo to track work & progress with the use of check sheets.
  • Assists in the design of control and electrical systems for area facilities.
  • Keeps maintenance and repair expenditures within budget limits and codes instrumentation/electrical invoices to track costs.
  • Produces estimates for material and installation costs of area facilities.
  • Assists in maintenance and repair projects and costing for capital budget.
  • Assists Director US Operations & Engineering with creating and maintaining budgets.
  • Troubleshoots problems related to electrical controls, motors, VFDs, and PLCs.
  • Troubleshoots problems related to instrumentation and controls, valves, meters, and quality assurance equipment.
  • Participates in commissioning of new equipment, facilities, and additions to existing controls.
  • Maintains all electrical and instrumentation equipment as required by manufacturer recommendations & standards.
  • Contracts out maintenance work that is outside of your abilities and supervises contractors.
  • Troubleshoots terminal operating systems.
  • Expedites the purchase and delivery of materials needed for various projects and maintenance.
  • Uses computer systems to perform preventive maintenance activities.
  • Assists with the development of operating manuals for new and old operating systems within the terminal.
  • Ensures outside carriers and contractors have up-to-date service agreements, insurance coverage, and safety standards that meet Gibson’s requirements.
  • Sets priorities to accommodate the needs of terminal operations.
  • Provides written advance notice to applicable business units for all shutdowns.
  • Deals with customer concerns courteously and on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S).
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Electrician and Instrumentation Certificate.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience as an Instrumentation Technician.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience as an Electrician with hands-on facility construction and maintenance.
  • Required safety certificates of the industry.
  • Proficiency in business software (e.g., Excel, Microsoft Word).
  • Understanding of pipeline dynamics.
  • Ability to analyze data for troubleshooting equipment to maintain operation within an acceptable margin of error.
  • Ability to work as an effective and valued team member.
  • Ability to complete projects on time while minimizing interruption to existing facility operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant technological improvements.

Working Conditions

  • Field-based position with significant travel to operating sites required.
  • Must be available for on-call emergency response.
  • Must be able to meet requirements to complete site tours and inspections.
