SUMMARY
The local shuttle driver will be responsible for executing local deliveries within a 50-mile radius with a 26ft box truck with the utmost care, professionalism, and accuracy.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate 26’ box truck safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and the Department of Transportation
- Accurately and efficiently load and unload cargo, often using a manual or powered pallet jack
- Backs truck to customer dock
- Maintains compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and safe and professional driving behavior
- Communicates with customer representatives in pleasant, respectful, and efficient manner
- Communicating and coordinating with dispatchers
- Complies with all DOT requirements including drug and alcohol testing (subject to random and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing)
- Secures cargo and properly arranges and balances it within the vehicle
- Ensures that any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Class A CDL Required
- Minimum of 2 yrs. of Verified experience within the past 4 yrs. 3+ Preferred
- Minimum 1yr Medical Certificate - Minimum ICC requirements related to physical qualifications as set forth under Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 391.41, Physical Qualifications of Drivers
- Experience in load securement, route planning, and navigating various road conditions
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to handle sensitive cargo with care
- Detail-oriented / mindset required
- Must have a TWIC Card or be eligible to obtain a TWIC Card within 90 days, if required
- Hazmat required
- No positive drug or alcohol test result in the past five (5) yrs
- No accident involving bodily injury within the last three (3) yrs
- No DUI/DWI, Reckless Driving or Speeding Tickets 12mph or higher in the past (5) yrs
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequently carry, push, or pull freight weighing 1-125 pounds
- Lifts up to 50 pounds
- Frequently reach for freight at waist level and occasionally above shoulder height or below waist level
- Shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals, not applicable on all trucks
- Frequently squat or crouch to handle and position freight
- Climb in and out of the truck 4 to 6 feet, 8 to 10 times daily with assistance of various steps and handholds; occasionally bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching and balancing
- Conduct pre-trip inspection
- Fuel vehicles and check engine oil/coolant levels, perform preventative maintenance
- Must be able to spend at least 5% of day standing and 5% of the day walking on surfaces such as wood, metal and concrete. Surface may sometimes be slippery or wet
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls to operate the truck
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Exposure to diesel fumes, airborne particles, and occasionally harsh weather conditions while loading or unloading
- Time spent both inside the truck cab—which may involve extended periods of sitting and exposure to engine noise and vibration—and outside at customer sites, terminals, or on public roadways
