Responsibilities
- Operate a 26' box truck safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and DOT regulations
- Accurately and efficiently load and unload cargo, often using a manual or powered pallet jack
- Communicate with customer representatives in a professional manner
- Comply with DOT requirements including drug and alcohol testing
- Secure cargo and arrange it properly within the vehicle
- Ensure any mechanical issues with the vehicle are addressed before driving
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications & Work Experience
- CDL A License Required
- A minimum of 2 years CDL A driving experience within the last 4 years. 3+ years preferred
- Meet DOT qualification requirements, FMCSR 391.41
- Experience in load securement, route planning, and navigating various road conditions
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to handle sensitive cargo with care
- Detail-oriented mindset required
- MUST have a TWIC or be eligible to obtain one within 90 days
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle
- Use hands and fingers to operate steering wheel, controls, GPS devices, and other on-board equipment
- Reach for freight at waist level and occasionally above or below shoulder height
- Occasionally squat or crouch to handle and position freight
- Climb in and out of the truck 4 to 6 feet, 8 to 10 times daily with assistance of various steps and handholds; occasionally bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching and balancing
- Conduct pre-trip inspection
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks
- Must be able to stand and walk for at least 5% of the day, including on surfaces such as wood, metal, and concrete, which may be slippery or wet
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level, at waist level, and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls to operate the truck
Work Environment
- Exposure to diesel fumes, airborne particles, and occasional harsh weather conditions while loading or unloading
- Time spent both inside the truck cab—often involving extended periods of sitting and exposure to engine noise and vibration—and outside at customer sites, terminals, or on public roadways
- Noisy environments, varying from quiet inside the cab to moderate or loud at delivery or pick-up locations
