About the role

This opportunity is ideal for experienced truck drivers who want to stay closer to home and spend more time with family—without leaving behind the skills and professionalism they have built on the road. In this role, you will use your driving expertise to support safe driving practices, guide applicants through skill and knowledge testing, and help ensure fair and consistent evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Testing Applicants: Conduct vision checks, knowledge exams, and on-road driving tests for commercial and non-commercial applicants
  • Inspecting Vehicles: Check vehicles for proper mechanical condition and readiness before testing begins
  • Reviewing Documents: Examine identity and eligibility documents to detect irregularities and prevent fraud
  • Processing Transactions: Complete applications, record test results, as well as issue driver license and identification products
  • Assisting Customers: Provide clear information about licensing requirements, procedures, and available services
  • Using Systems: Access databases to confirm identity, verify records, and ensure compliance with REAL ID and other regulations

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
  • Special Requirements: All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application. All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Benefits

Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Overtime and travel to other Driver License Centers as needed
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
