Responsibilities
- Conduct CDL skills tests (pre-trip, basic controls, and road test) for applicants as scheduled.
- Administer tests following the precise specifications and procedures outlined by the Department and the Examiners Manual.
- Accurately record the results of each test, whether a pass or a failure, and submit them into the Department's PWS and CSTIMS systems by the next business day.
- Adhere to all anti-discrimination laws and provide reasonable accommodations for applicants with special needs, including arranging for American Sign Language interpreters when necessary.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of all test materials and computer tablets provided for the examination.
- Comply with unannounced inspections of your activities to ensure compliance.
- Complete annual written certifications confirming understanding and compliance with all policies and regulations.
- Maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License and a current, valid Third-Party Tester Certificate.
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid and current Third-Party Tester Certificate issued by the State of Florida for the type(s) of CDL Skills Tests being conducted.
- Must have and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License.
- Five (5) Years CDL experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to follow detailed procedures and regulations precisely.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and a commitment to fair and impartial testing.
- Experience with or ability to quickly learn the Department's PWS and CSTIMS systems.
- Must be able to pass a review of official state driver record every six months.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA and state CDL testing regulations.
Physical Demands
- This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, and lift or carry items occasionally exceeding 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity is essential for operating standard office equipment (e.g., copier, fax, telephone) and for conducting vehicle inspections and assessments.
- Ability to primarily work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, rain, and cold.
- Ability to work under extended periods of standing, walking, and observing candidates are required.
- Ability to frequently climb in and out of commercial vehicles is necessary.
- Possess visual acuity, auditory ability, and quick reflexes required to assess driving performance and respond to emergencies during testing.
- Employees are expected to follow all IRSC safety standards and protocols while performing job duties.
