Driver Helper

About the role

Under close supervision, this position is responsible for loading, delivering, and unloading products using various equipment types including flatbeds, box trucks, and dry vans. The role requires assisting with securing products, ensuring paperwork completion and accuracy, communicating ETAs to customers, unloading products at job sites, stores, or customer homes, and maintaining communication with J.B. Hunt management throughout the day. The position also involves cleaning equipment at the end of the day.

Incumbents must be available to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and overtime, and may work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Review loading tickets and specifications to select and load appropriate products onto the delivery vehicle.
• Communicate delivery arrivals to the customer.
• Assist the driver with ensuring all paperwork is in order, accurate, and complete.
• Unload products from the delivery vehicle using appropriate equipment such as a lift gate, ramp, pushcart, or pallet jack.
• Interact with coworkers and customers in a professional, fast-paced environment to meet customer needs while building strong working relationships.
• Maintain cleanliness of delivery equipment and workspace.
• Understand and promote all J.B. Hunt safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety for self and coworkers.
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures to maintain a hazard-free job site.
• May assist in installing and assembling large appliances, furniture, and home exercise equipment.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to work outdoors, in various weather conditions, and across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends.
• Ability to lift products up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to move and maneuver products upwards of 300 lbs using proper tools, carts, manual conveyance, team lifting techniques, and accommodations.
• Ability to wear appropriate work attire, including a bump cap, steel-toed shoes, gloves, and a safety vest.

Qualifications

• Demonstration of relevant skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences.
• Customer service skills (preferred).
• Experience in handling products, especially home appliances and bulky furniture (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record that meets J.B. Hunt standards (preferred).
