Driver - EMS

About the Role

Operates a bus or sedan to provide transportation for John Knox Village residents, under the supervision of the Public Safety Supervisor and/or Dispatcher. Supports the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes required training as outlined by policy.

Responsibilities

• Drives bus to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule, prioritizing passenger safety at all times.
• Assists passengers with entering/exiting the vehicle and handling baggage.
• Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilation for passenger comfort.
• Complies with local traffic regulations and safety precautions.
• Reports delays, accidents, and traffic violations.
• Inspects bus and maintains proper levels of gas, oil, and water before departure.
• May load or unload baggage or express checked by passengers in the baggage compartment.
• Transports and secures passengers' luggage, groceries, and wheelchairs.
• Spends a majority of the day driving a sedan or bus.
• Keeps vehicle clean inside and out.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service and listening skills.
• Adheres to all safety regulations and workplace conduct standards.
• Handles stress effectively and maintains positive interactions with colleagues and customers.

The responsibilities described above are primary but not exhaustive; additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid MO Class E (or higher) driver’s license at time of hire.
• Ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug screen and maintain a D.O.T. medical card.
• Prior commercial driving experience preferred.
• Beginner-level knowledge of Microsoft Office (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks, and procedure manuals.
• Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and understanding of fractions, decimals, algebra, and geometry.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Must interact professionally with individuals of varying mental capacities.

Special Working Conditions

• Exposure to varying degrees of temperature extremes, particularly outdoors.

• Heavy Work: Maximum occasional lift of 23 lbs from floor to 50 in; occasional carry of 23 lbs for 50 ft; occasional horizontal push/pull force of 40 lbs for 10 feet; occasional vertical push force of 55 lbs at 24 in; frequent grip of 20 lbs; occasional climb of 12 in; occasional forward reach of 55 in; occasional overhead reach of 66 in; frequent lateral reach of 48 in.
• Frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, and neck rotation.
• Continuous hand, foot, and fine motor coordination.
• Occasional standing and walking; continuous sitting.
• Visual acuity required to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium on narrow, wet, or slippery surfaces.
• Lifting: Raising objects from lower to higher positions or moving them horizontally, requiring substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
• Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas verbally with accuracy and clarity.
• Hearing: Perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction, and receiving detailed information through oral communication.

Supervision

Reports to the Public Safety Supervisor. Takes work direction from the Lead Transportation and Dispatcher.
