Driver Apprentice - City

Position Overview Through education and skills development, become proficient in operating tractor-trailer combinations. Responsibilities include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work. Essential Functions Operate tractor-trailer vehicles, including doubles and straight trucksConduct safety inspections before, during, and after tripsHook and unhook trailers and dolliesHandle freight using motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacksSecure freight inside trailers with straps, ropes, and palletsRepair or recoup damaged freight if neededComplete documentation and reports accuratelyCollect freight charges and maintain related recordsAdhere to hazardous material regulations and confirm proper placardingCommunicate with dispatch regarding delays and issuesProvide customer service, determine pick-up/delivery needs, and seek additional business opportunitiesPerform job duties of a road driver or freight handler as necessaryFollow all laws, regulations, and company policies Qualifications Class A CDL or equivalent permitAcceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)Meet DOT regulatory requirementsBasic math, reading, and communication skillsAbility to lift and handle freight up to 100 poundsCapable of sitting for long periods, bending, twisting, and climbing in/out of trucksFollow instructions and complete trainingWork independently or as part of a team Working Conditions Drive in various weather conditions, including day and nightExposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and DOT-regulated hazardous materialsHours vary based on operational needs
