Driver Apprentice - City

Position Overview This role involves operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, with a focus on developing driving skills through education and training. Non-driving duties include forklift operation, dock work, freight handling, securing cargo, and performing safety inspections. Key Responsibilities Operate and inspect tractor-trailers, connect/disconnect trailers, and perform safety checksHandle freight using motorized/manual equipment like forklifts and pallet jacksSecure cargo with straps, ropes, and pallets; repair damaged freight if neededComplete documentation, verify shipments, and process freight chargesFollow hazardous material regulations and communicate with dispatchProvide customer service, determine pickup/delivery needs, and identify sales opportunitiesPerform additional duties such as tire chaining and, when necessary, act as a road driver or freight handlerEnsure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies Qualifications & Skills Class A CDL or CLP required; acceptable Motor Vehicle RecordAbility to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 100 pounds and climbing in/out of trucksBasic math, communication skills, and ability to follow instructionsAbility to work independently or in a team Working Conditions Operate vehicles in various weather conditions, exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and DOT-regulated hazardous materials. Flexibility in working hours is required.
