Responsibilities
- Operate drilling rigs and support equipment to install underground utilities according to project specifications
- Read and interpret construction prints, locate utilities, and mark underground services accurately
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and basic equipment maintenance
- Ensure proper placement of conduit using bore logs and tracking systems
- Collaborate with field crews to set up equipment, mix drilling fluid, and pull back conduit or pipe
- Maintain accurate records of bore lengths, depths, and site conditions
- Adhere to all company and regulatory safety procedures and requirements
- Absorb and assist with potholing, locating, trenching, or other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Work in various terrain and weather conditions while maintaining productivity and quality
Requirements
- Educational requirement: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience: 1–3 years of directional drilling experience or equivalent training
- Equipment familiarity: Familiarity with Ditch Witch or Vermeer HDD equipment a plus
- Technical skills: Ability to read construction plans and understand underground utility locates
- Permits: Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
- Physical demands: Exposure to frequent work outdoors in varied weather and job site conditions

- Bore accuracy and production efficiency
- Equipment condition and maintenance compliance
- On-time completion of assigned bores
- Safety record and incident-free days
- Accuracy of bore logs and documentation
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and lift up to 75 lbs regularly
- Manual dexterity to operate drilling controls and hand tools
- Visual acuity for operating and monitoring bore path and tracking systems
- Tolerance for working around noise, dust, and heavy equipment
