Job Summary
As an Operator I, II, or III, you will ultimately be responsible for operating directional drilling equipment, locating predetermined bore paths, and supporting underground utility construction projects. You will operate equipment safely, maintain project efficiency, and ensure compliance with all safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate directional drilling and construction equipment in compliance with company safety policies and procedures
- Drill and/or locate predetermined paths while avoiding underground utilities and other obstacles
- Load, unload, inspect, and maintain heavy equipment, trailers, and support vehicles
- Read and interpret construction plans and specifications to support drilling operations
- Absorb and assist with conduit placement, potholing utilities, proofing conduits, concrete work, asphalt placement, and trench support
- Communicate with supervisors and crews regarding project details, safety requirements, and operational progress
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
- Minimum 1 year of directional drilling or locating experience in underground utility construction
- Experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to safely operate drilling equipment and heavy machinery
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
- Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and company safety regulations
- Basic computer knowledge and understanding of shoring systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain
- DOT Medical Card or willingness to obtain
- Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer equipment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods
- Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions and around heavy equipment and active utilities
- Must be able to wear required PPE including safety boots, hardhat, safety glasses, and other protective gear

Additional Employment Information
- Operator levels (I, II, III) are determined by experience, certifications, and demonstrated skill level
- Advancement may include increased responsibility, equipment mastery, cross-training in other field positions, and the ability to train and mentor team members
- We will determine compensation within the posted hourly range based on skills, experience, and equity to employees in similar roles
