Drill Operator

Key Responsibilities

• Operate directional drilling and construction equipment in compliance with company safety procedures
• Drill and/or locate predetermined bore paths while avoiding utilities and underground obstacles
• Load, unload, inspect, and maintain drilling equipment and vehicles
• Read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Absorb and assist with conduit placement, potholing, proofing conduits, concrete work, asphalt placement, and trench support
• Communicate with supervisors and crew members regarding project progress and jobsite safety

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
• Minimum 1 year of directional drilling or locating experience
• Experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to safely operate drilling equipment and related heavy machinery
• Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications
• Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and company safety regulations
• Knowledge of basic computer skills and shoring methods

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods
• Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment
• Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and other safety gear

• Operator levels (I, II, III) are differentiated based on experience, certifications, and demonstrated skill level.
• Advancement includes increased responsibility, equipment mastery, and the ability to train and mentor team members.
• Higher-level operators may also be cross-trained in additional field positions and maintain advanced certifications such as OSHA 30.
