Join our team to assist and prepare ~200,000 servicemembers who separate annually from the United States Military as they begin a new life chapter as civilians. The Department of Labor (DOL) Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) program requires contractor services to support transitioning servicemembers through its highly successful Transition Assistance Program (TAP), offered worldwide. This includes conducting job assistance workshops, employment counseling, and connecting servicemembers to approved government and non-government partners. Our team ensures servicemembers and their families have the necessary career tools and information to seamlessly transition into the civilian workforce.

About the role

The DOL VETS TAP program seeks skilled and compassionate Lead Employment Navigators to assist military personnel in transitioning to civilian occupations. In this client-facing, in-office position with set hours, you will provide individual counseling on the job search process, assess transitioning servicemembers' and spouses' skills, and assist with career exploration. You will also support program utilization through proactive marketing and outreach efforts, including presentations, informational tabling, networking, and relationship development. This role supports the Employment Navigator and Partnership Program (ENPP) and reports to a Regional Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Listen to servicemembers/spouses, analyze their expressed needs, suggest solutions, and assist with refining career action plans.
  • Provide job search guidance, career advice, and ensure access to employment-related resources.
  • Assist with job matching based on servicemembers' skills and work requirements.
  • Provide labor market information, identify companies and industries in specific areas, and advise on job application strategies.
  • Assist clients in identifying necessary credentials and developing a path to fill qualification gaps through credentialing.
  • Assist individuals with Career Readiness Standards (CRS) verification and serve as the DOL initial point of contact for warm handovers.
  • Connect transitioning servicemembers and/or spouses to DOL-approved government and non-government partners, as well as American Job Centers/State Workforce Agencies.
  • Provide resume and cover letter advice.
  • Offer information on apprenticeships, describe Registered Apprenticeship Programs, and guide clients on tools for researching apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Assist with training and mentoring Employment Navigators and demonstrate sound organizational and leadership skills for site management support.
  • Perform administrative functions for the office.
  • Promote services using approved messages and materials to enhance program awareness and conduct ongoing marketing and outreach to potential clients.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma and 5 years of military Transition Assistance Program (TAP) experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of employment or career counseling experience.
  • Knowledge of the civilian workplace, translating military skills/language, assessing the job market, and researching/interpreting job requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively with the military community.
  • Strong coordination skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience speaking in front of groups and engaging audiences.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Experience managing and directing the activities of a team of 2-10 employees.

Pay

The salary range for this position is provided at the top of the posting and serves as a general guideline representing a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by factors such as scope of the role, relevant experience, job-related knowledge, education, training, key skills, and geographic market considerations. For roles available in multiple states, the range may vary to reflect differences in local labor markets. In addition to base salary, eligible positions may include other forms of compensation, such as annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities.
