Documentary Production Intern
Black Valley Films is seeking a part-time intern with a background in Film, Journalism, and/or Business to assist Academy-Award-nominated filmmaker Scott Hamilton Kennedy. This is a unique opportunity to learn about documentary production, funding, and distribution from the ground up in a small, hands-on environment.
About the role
You will gain exposure to production and post-production workflows, as well as the business side of independent documentary filmmaking. As part of a small team, you’ll work closely with the director and contribute to a variety of tasks, making you an essential part of the company.
Responsibilities
- Research for documentary projects
- Assist with post-production workflow
- Support fundraising efforts
- Handle general office and administrative tasks
- Manage marketing campaigns via social media networks
Requirements
- Minimum 4-month commitment
- Reliable transportation for local candidates
Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized
- Strong research skills
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and Adobe Creative Cloud
- Knowledge of macOS
Preferred (but not required)
- Working knowledge of social media platforms
- Experience with cold calls/emails
- Film editing and/or graphic design skills
Schedule
3 days per week, 9:30 AM–6:00 PM PST. Location: Home office in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles (remote work may be considered).
This is an unpaid internship; college and professional credit are available.
