About the role
The Document Image Technician maintains and organizes patient health information in both physical and digital formats. This involves gathering patient information, verifying its accuracy, and scanning information into the electronic medical record (EHR) to ensure that patient information is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
Responsibilities
- Ensure medical record availability by collecting all discharged medical records received via courier on a daily basis or as needed, including loose sheet filing and scanning into Cerner.
- Prepare all medical records appropriately by verifying correct patient demographics and identifiers, removing staples, adding missing labels, and taping loose papers before scanning.
- Scan documents into the EHR, ensuring each page is recognizable and belongs to the correct patient encounter.
- Verify and correct scanning errors, double-checking that demographics and patient identifiers match the record data.
- File documents and records in an organized fashion.
- Maintain the integrity of medical records by never deleting images without replacement, ensuring all required documents are scanned, correcting bad images, and indexing information accurately.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required; Associate degree in medical office or health information management preferred, including successful completion of medical and anatomical terminology courses.
- 2 years of medically related clerical experience preferred.
- Computer and data entry experience, with the ability to accurately sort documents alphabetically and numerically, including by terminal digit.
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative medical record analysis.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English; ability to communicate clearly and tactfully, write legibly, and spell correctly.
