Doctoral Student

Emory University is a Tier-1 institution consistently ranked among the top 25 universities in the United States. Situated within Atlanta, Georgia, Emory is internationally recognized for its elite academic standards, supported by over $1 billion in annual research funding. I am interested in work that will model, simulate, and quantify/plan/mitigate the societal impact (carbon, energy, water, etc.) of distributed/Cloud/AI systems. In other words - what is the impact of building a data center in a certain area? What happens if we build it somewhere else, or switch to different hardware, or shift processing elsewhere during the day, etc. That being said, I'd also be interested in a student who wants to work with scheduling, particularly for serverless and/or microservice applications with a focus on efficiency and sustainability. I am particularly interested in those with strong backgrounds in distributed systems / cloud computing / data centers, simulation, and related areas.
