About the Role

A Dock Technician installs and services dock equipment at customer locations, primarily working outdoors in various weather conditions. The role focuses on ensuring total customer satisfaction by identifying needs and providing solutions for loading dock equipment such as dock levelers, shelters, seals, bumpers, and commercial doors.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and service dock and door equipment, including dock levelers, dock shelters, seals, bumpers, and commercial doors.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and offer solutions to meet customer specifications.
  • Communicate with dispatchers to determine work schedules and drive to assigned job sites.
  • Order and obtain parts for repairs.
  • Complete paperwork, including repair documentation and customer signatures.
  • Maintain a professional image of self, vehicles, and work areas.
  • Practice safety protocols for self, customers, and the environment.
  • Communicate repair history, estimates, and "need-to-know" information within the company.
  • Provide sales leads and uphold the company’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Seek continuous improvement in processes, products, and services.
  • Maintain personal and work area standards for safety, appearance, and equipment condition.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or 12+ months of related experience in maintaining commercial doors or dock equipment.
  • Basic electrical experience required; advanced electrical or welding experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability under the company’s commercial insurance.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for technical and customer-relations issues.

Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effective communication with customers and employees.
  • Basic math skills, including computation of rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Knowledge of internet software.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.

Work Environment

The work environment varies, including office settings, job sites, and industrial locations.
