About the Role

The primary objectives of the Dock and Door Technician are: (1) the proficient repair and service of the customer's equipment; (2) to maintain good communication and working relationships with customers, peers, and management; (3) to represent and sell the entire company; (4) to be profitable with direct labor billing; (5) work within all safety guidelines established by Raymond West and OSHA. Responsibilities

  • Repair all types of Dock and Door equipment that RW sells and services
  • Repair all types of equipment that Raymond West sells and services
  • Update training and skills on a continuing basis
  • Train other employees as needed
  • Maintain a profitable billing level
  • Follow all Service Department procedures
  • Communicate with assigned Service leadership
  • Complete all paperwork transactions in a timely, neat, accurate and orderly fashion
  • Communicate all options to customers before proceeding with work
  • Have the necessary tools to perform repair and scheduled service work
  • Complete jobs within quoted time limits when applicable
  • Maintain a clean and orderly (inside and outside) vehicle
  • Maintain an accurate assigned parts inventory, if applicable
  • Represent the entire company at all times
  • Pass Raymond Certification and re-certification if applicable
  • Maintain good working knowledge of customers and equipment in assigned areas
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record as established by the company's insurance carrier
  • Report accidents whether self or customer
  • Account for 100% of available time during working hours
  • Must be willing to work overtime when necessary
  • Must coordinate all overtime with assigned supervisor
  • Must follow all procedures in the company's Employee Handbook
  • Must follow safety procedures and use good judgment in regard to safety
  • Must be willing to work out of town as necessary
  • Establish a positive rapport with customers
  • Perform other specific duties and projects as assigned by the Service Supervisors or Managers

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Must be willing to work off-hours as specific needs dictate and willing to assume more responsibility as required

  • Must pass all available certificates appropriate to the position
  • Must have working knowledge of basic D.C. electricity, basic A.C. electricity, internal combustion, and diesel engines
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Raymond Level 1 Certified or working towards that goal, if applicable
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with no more than the allowable level of points on record, if applicable
  • Maintain personally owned tools according to approved minimum tool list. Maintain additional tools as required by duties and certification level
  • Must be able to take directions
  • Must be a team player, i.e., to work with peers
  • Must have working knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • Must have mechanical abilities
  • Must maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance
  • Willing and able to learn quickly and perform accurately and neatly with a degree of flexibility

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years breakdown experience or comparable service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • This position will be based in the field and require daily travel within assigned territories
  • Must be able to be insured by Raymond West
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with no more than the allowable level of points on record, if applicable

Physical Requirements

  • Position is non-sedentary
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Position will be required to go onto job sites to perform duties where construction is underway
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and have the ability to maneuver up to 125 lbs. with assistance of equipment or other team members
  • Requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to smell
  • Requires climbing/balancing/stooping/kneeling/crouching and crawling
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and the risk of electrical shock
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration
  • The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud
