DMV Title and Registration Technician

Job Summary

Performs a variety of clerical duties as needed to expedite the collecting and receipting of county personal property tax related to motor vehicles. Provides in‑person customer assistance to taxpayers regarding motor vehicle transaction services. Processes a full range of documents related to registration, plating, titling, etc. of motor vehicles. Frequently handles stressful and confrontational situations arising from displeased or angry taxpayers.

Responsibilities

• Expedite the collection and receipting of county personal property tax related to motor vehicles.
• Assist taxpayers in person with motor vehicle transaction services.
• Process documents for registration, plating, titling, and related motor vehicle matters.
• Manage stressful or confrontational interactions with dissatisfied taxpayers.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of clerical experience.
• Ability to attend trainings offered by the Utah State Tax Commission and other agencies related to the Motor Vehicle Administration System.

Special Qualifications

• Must hold and maintain a valid Utah driver’s license in accordance with Iron County Personnel Policy and Procedures.
• Working knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
• Ability to apply general rules and instructions to specific situations.
• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public under adverse and stressful conditions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and knowledge of basic accounting principles.
• Aptitude to understand and implement laws pertaining to motor vehicle registration and collection of local taxes and fees.
• Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
• Must be able to pass an extensive pre‑employment background screening.

Pay

Hourly wage: $19.1742

Full‑time position (Non‑Exempt; Career Service; Benefitted Position)
