About the role

This position is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation CHASE Division, which includes Communications and Customer Experience, History, and Special Events. The CHASE Division Manager plays an integral role in the department’s ongoing efforts to unify the community, provide services and events that celebrate history and culture, and distribute critical information to county residents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, related software, and other standard office equipment;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers;
  • Apply critical thinking skills and make sound decisions, including under pressure;
  • Develop and sustain partnerships with various organizations and county departments;
  • Present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely;
  • Represent the department to the general public, school representatives, community groups, county staff, vendors, contractors, and other internal and external stakeholders;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies, and standards affecting operations, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures;
  • Affords assistance in the development and administration of budgets for assigned facilities, services, and programs;
  • Responds to and resolves inquiries and complaints related to the division’s programs, activities, events, operations, projects, and plans;
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate the work of the division’s professional staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, history, marketing, or a related field;
  • Seven years of experience in marketing, special events, community engagement, and annual marketing campaigns;
  • Three years of direct supervision and management experience;
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of communications and customer engagement, programming, historical resources, and special events;
  • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of strategic planning principles and methodologies to develop, plan, market, organize, and coordinate comprehensive events at various facilities throughout Chesterfield County.

Benefits

Based on the Virginia point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

Pay

Commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
