About the Role

The Division Manager provides superior leadership and management to the division in accordance with company beliefs, policies, procedures, and objectives. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role oversees all aspects of operations, including safety compliance, resource management, estimating, business development, sales, project execution, profit/loss outcomes, and overall performance within the designated region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health, Safety, and Environment: Ensure compliance with state, client, and company occupational health, safety, and environment regulations. Strive for zero lost-time injuries in every workplace.
  • The B&M Way: Promote W.J. McDonald's Code of Business and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Maintain corporate policies, systems, and a professional image across all operations.
  • Strategic Planning and Objectives: Lead key employees in the annual planning process to create a business plan aligned with regional and national objectives. Develop and review monthly business development plans for each operation.
  • Financial Management: Meet budget requirements for cash flow, work-in-progress (WIP), profit/loss, and net assets. Implement and review controls for estimating, tendering, purchasing, subcontracting, and accounting. Focus on labor productivity and weekly reporting. Prioritize fully funded clients and strong cash flow.
  • People Leadership: Establish and update performance/potential charts and succession plans for key employees. Foster a cooperative, enthusiastic culture that encourages growth, teamwork, and open communication. Hold difficult conversations with honesty and diplomatic candor.
  • Business Development: Build and maintain professional relationships with major customers and prospects. Champion customer relationship management programs and oversee opportunity pipeline meetings to ensure business diversification.
  • Risk Management: Encourage staff to evaluate risk versus opportunity, minimizing exposure on large construction projects or poorly funded areas.
  • Reporting and Review: Conduct quarterly business reviews and annual strategic planning, including year-end reports, HR leadership development reviews, and business development plans.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in engineering or construction technology (extensive construction industry experience may substitute for post-secondary education).
  • Extensive knowledge of construction and maintenance practices, procedures, techniques, and applicable labor codes.
  • Managerial experience in a union environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend financial statements.
