Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for the division while building and enhancing the division's clinical enterprise.
- Provides leadership, medical oversight, clinical supervision and implementation of exceptional health care delivery systems for the hospital.
- Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and all Joint Commission, and DPH Health Care Quality standards.
- Works collaboratively, mentors and oversees the medical director, if the division has a medical director.
- Implements systems and/or programs that address quality while supporting quality improvement projects that are consistent with Joint Commission standards.
- Foster collaboration within the department and interdepartmentally.
- Create and foster an environment that encourages the professional growth, development and success of faculty including utilizing mentoring, coaching and training.
- Participate in education of students, residents, and fellows, including their development.
- Participate in clinical, research and mentor other faculty in research pathways.
- Plans and monitors staffing activities, including retaining, evaluating, engagement, recognition, disciplinary actions, hiring of diverse faculty and staff and continuing education initiatives.
- Ensures that medical staff and other employees adhere to appropriate billing and coding procedures.
- Participates as an active member in all appropriate Hospital administrative and clinical care committees as assigned.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility and financial growth.
Qualifications
- Education Required: Graduate from accredited school of medicine required MD, DO degree.
- Experience Required: Completed Board required training 5-7 years prior.
- Leadership experience preferentially in an academic environment.
- Outstanding record of achievement in an academic medical center as a clinician, educator, investigator and academic medical administrator.
About the Role
The Division Head of Ophthalmology’s responsibilities will include a combination of administrative, clinical, research and educational duties. The Division head is responsible for the overall day to day management of a broad range of clinical and educational activities, administrative and strategic efforts. This role will provide visionary and innovative leadership to guide the division into the next phase of growth and development while ensuring the delivery of superior and comprehensive clinical Ophthalmology care in a rapidly changing medical landscape.
