About the role
Directs the department's Division of Staff Development and Training, which includes managing the design, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive statewide staff development and training program for over 5,000 employees of the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC).
This position requires daily contact with inmates and successful completion of eight (8) weeks of SCDC basic training upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day operations of the certification/recertification program and various development programs to ensure compliance with federal and state legislation, as well as agency policy and procedures.
- Manage staff, resource instructors, training classes, feeding and housing of students, maintenance of building and grounds, and provide security for inmate workers.
- Plan and direct the implementation of the agency's employee development programs using information from organizational needs analysis, management and employee consultation, and program evaluation.
- Oversee curriculum design/development, testing and evaluation procedures, and instructor performance.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree.
- Ten years' experience in the management of a staff development and training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in staff development and training within a corrections or law enforcement agency or a branch of the United States Armed Forces.
