Duties & Responsibilities
- Clinical: Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Teaching: The faculty member will be expected to teach medical students, neurology residents (and those from other Departments), and sleep medicine fellows.
- Research: The Division of Sleep Medicine is engaged in clinical and translational research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical and/or translational research projects and clinical trials.
- Service: Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- An MD/DO with residency training at an accredited institution
- Eligibility for licensure in Virginia and board certification or board eligible in Neurology
- Understanding of, and appreciation for, the three missions of research, education, and clinical care as it applies to Sleep Medicine in the context of academic medicine
- A strategic orientation that looks to collect, analyze, and act on relevant data to make thoughtful decisions for immediate action and long-term plans in clinical operations and quality initiatives
- Strong leadership ability and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage colleagues within Sleep Medicine, the Neurology Department, and the health system more broadly
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as faculty at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training and board certification in Sleep Medicine
