District Utility Engineer (TEM II)

Open recruitment for a District Utility Engineer position within the State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 7 (Frederick County).

About the Role

This position supervises and administers engineering technicians, contractors, and consultants to ensure thorough and proper inspection of all Utility Relocation work, Engineering Access Permits, and Utility Permits within engineering District 7. Responsibilities include managing the unit's assignments, setting standards, and coordinating work with other divisions, contractors, and local municipalities on complex engineering projects related to highway construction, hydraulics, bridge, traffic, and facility design and construction for electric, water and sewer, gas, communications, and fiber optic systems.

This position is considered emergency essential and requires the ability to report within one hour.

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Eight (8) years of experience in professional engineering, including one (1) year of supervisory or consultant management experience.
• Four (4) years of the required experience must have involved utility inspection, utility coordination, and/or project management (selective qualification).
• Possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.

Additional work experience in professional engineering or technical engineering at the journey level or above may substitute year-for-year for the required education. A Master's Degree in engineering may substitute for one year of non-supervisory experience. Persons registered as Professional Engineers in Maryland or a state with comparable requirements are considered to have met the education requirements.
