DISTRICT SIGN SPECIALIST 1-2
Help keep Louisiana’s roads and bridges safe while building a long-term career in public service. This position offers hands-on work, paid training, and opportunities for career growth within the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD). District Sign Specialists perform duties related to the complete installation and maintenance of highway signs throughout the district on all state and federal routes, including urban and rural areas.
This is an outdoor, physically active role that may involve varying weather conditions, shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency call-outs depending on assignment. Positions are located in Rapides Parish (District 08/Unit 750) and report to the Highway Foreman.
Responsibilities
- Possess a Class D Chauffeur's License
- Pass random drug testing
- Operate a forklift, gasoline post driver/auger, and various hand tools
- Lift 75 lbs. repeatedly
- Use UHF radio and follow proper radio etiquette
- Utilize cell phones, GPS devices, computers, and email to facilitate communication
This role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.
Requirements
- Possession of a current Class D Chauffeur's License (certain levels may require a valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeur’s License or CDL prior to permanent appointment or start date, depending on assignment)
No prior experience or training is required—training is provided, with opportunities for career progression.
Pay
- District Sign Specialist 1: $35,734.00 annually
- District Sign Specialist 2: $40,914.00 annually
Additional compensation may be considered based on extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
Schedule
This position may involve shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency call-outs depending on assignment.
