About the Role
This District Sales Manager (DSM) position is responsible for driving a performance culture and coaching Sales Consultants (SCs) to achieve profitable planned case and gross profit growth in the Colorado Springs, CO area. You must live within a one-hour commute of the territory (including traffic) or be willing to relocate at your own expense (relocation assistance is not provided).
Responsibilities
- Manage the performance and development of Sales Consultants (SCs) within the district.
- Conduct an average of 3-5 one-on-one work-withs per week to coach and direct SCs.
- Lead and facilitate Friday district meetings that educate, inspire, and drive key behavior changes to boost sales.
- Direct Customer Engagement efforts by enabling SCs to provide expanded service channel options, including technology enablers, value-added services, and team selling.
- Maintain a continuous improvement mentality around technology, sales skills, soft skills, and product knowledge.
- Leverage Sales Support resources and tools to maximize SCs’ consultative time.
- Fully utilize CRM for managing SCs’ sales planning, prospecting, and daily customer engagement, ensuring productive use of Sysco 360.
- Deliver Sysco brand results and manage conversion opportunities within the district.
- Support and promote all national campaigns and promotions.
- Provide coaching, training, and timely feedback to develop SCs’ consultative selling skills (The Sysco Way to Sell).
- Utilize the CMP and QPP Processes to coach performance of all sales colleagues in the district.
- Execute territory planning and management, prioritizing independent relationships with top customers and high-value prospects.
- Champion company initiatives and implement center-led strategy within the district.
- Perform additional sales management duties, including operational tasks and customer relationship management.
- Develop new business, penetrate existing accounts, and minimize lost business to achieve profitable sales growth.
- Seek and qualify prospects under company account stratification goals.
- Research customer business needs and develop tailored product and service solutions.
- Evaluate market trends and recommend products based on business needs and goals.
- Stay informed of market conditions, product innovations, and competitors’ offerings; share insights with customers.
- Answer customer questions about products, pricing, availability, and usage.
- Provide product training to customer personnel.
- Communicate and collect accounts receivable, working with the credit department to manage balances.
- Manage deliveries according to the routing schedule published by the transportation department.
- Troubleshoot order process issues (e.g., out-of-stock items, special orders, low inventory).
- Participate in company functions, promotions, customer visits, and events.
- Attend and contribute to general sales and district meetings.
- Review and analyze daily and weekly reports (e.g., special order requests, customer bid files, sales/gross profit margin data).
- Perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales budgets, maintaining records, processing credits, and filing reports.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions and assist with training new employees as requested.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., business administration) or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- 2+ years of experience successfully growing profitable sales in the foodservice industry.
- 5+ years of foodservice sales experience preferred.
