District Manager in Training
Position Summary
The District Manager In Training (DMIT) position is designed to provide eligible candidates with the training necessary to succeed in the role of District Manager. As a District Manager, you will guide a team of Store Managers in delivering an exceptional guest shopping experience, operational excellence, and a workplace that fosters engagement and aligns with the company's values.
Position Training
- Phase I: Foundational training for every Cumberland Farms team member, including New Hire and Orientation Training. Completion of MIT Training to gain insights into the roles of Store Manager or Restaurant Manager. Spend 2-3 months managing a team and overseeing operations.
- Phase II: Observing and working alongside a designated DM Trainer for 6-8 weeks, learning and practicing the duties and responsibilities of the District Manager. Upon completion, become District Manager In Waiting and manage a unit in your home store until an area opens.
Responsibilities
- Build and implement a strategic plan for the area, including appropriate staffing levels and performance management of all team personnel.
- Oversee team engagement and productivity across a wide network of locations, fostering a supportive environment for team member retention and growth.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities by setting clear and measurable goals, holding oneself and others accountable, and communicating effectively.
- Develop and support a strong leadership team by hiring or promoting store management candidates, ensuring ongoing training, coaching, and feedback, and leading by example.
- Analyze financial reports, P&L statements, and conduct gap analyses to monitor sales, expenses, labor costs, and inventory control. Coach Store Managers to improve profitability.
- Perform weekly store visits to ensure compliance with regional, divisional, and company standards regarding store conditions, promotions, operational procedures, and financial controls.
- Ensure high guest satisfaction and product quality while managing safety and security within the territory.
- Focus on food service, increasing sales, monitoring food service standards and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Region Manager.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED.
- Preferred Education: College degree in business or a closely related field (may substitute for some experience).
- Minimum Experience: 10 years of retail experience, preferably in restaurant general management.
- Preferred Experience: 1-3 years of multi-unit experience in c-store or restaurant environments.
- Licenses/Certifications: Not specified.
- Soft Skills: Excellent team building and leadership practices, strong communication and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to learn additional programs, ability to multitask, prioritize, and handle various issues constructively, strong analytical skills.
- Travel: 95% travel from location to location.
Hours & Conditions
- Typical workweek: Monday-Friday for a 48-hour work week, with occasional weekend work as needed.
- Physical requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand/walk for 8 hours a day, reach overhead, bend, squat, twist, grasp and grip.
