About the role

The position is responsible for managing the Facilities Repair and Maintenance Program for INDOT Southeast. The role is located within the Seymour District of INDOT.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and/or delegate the short-term daily and weekly work schedules based on priorities and deadlines within established goals and objectives.
  • Manage all maintenance-related and capital improvement activities within assigned facilities and grounds.
  • Establish schedules and method for providing facility and maintenance services, identify resource needs and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Assign and delegate work to subordinates, spot checking routine work and reviewing more complex or unusual projects.
  • Maintain operational systems for monitoring and tracking work orders, preventative maintenance logs, safety reports, etc.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and standard trade practices related to quality standards are adhered to during the course of work activities.
  • Make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies and procedures.
  • Regularly inspect property for safety and security concerns and ensure staff correctly wears and uses safety equipment and investigates accidents.
  • Forecast and prepare maintenance operating budgets, ensures compliance with established budgetary parameters.
  • Order, prepare specifications, and purchase supplies, equipment and contract work according to required purchasing and bidding procedures.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.
  • Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of variety of trades related to installation, inspection, repair and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and other related systems in all facility locations.
  • Advanced knowledge of the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to understand and interpret detailed plans and specifications.
  • Ability to make long-range plans, schedule preventative maintenance, and seasonal maintenance as well as prioritize routine and emergency repairs.
  • Estimate repair and construction project costs.
  • Ability to lead a multi-discipline team both as supervisor and in a technical capacity.
  • Interpret and explain pertinent department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Qualifications

  • Minimally, must be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

Pay

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 5 years of experience in maintenance, construction, or related field with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
  • However, a degree is not required.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members. This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
