Distribution Process Worker Leader
About the role
This position leads a team of three or more workers in trades and labor tasks within a warehouse environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and instruct workers, ensuring availability of tools and materials.
- Monitor work in progress and completed tasks for compliance with procedures and standards.
- Answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, and instructions.
- Report work status and progress to supervisors.
- Perform non-lead duties including stock selection, stowing, location surveys, physical inventory, material handling, examining and identifying materials, packing, and operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Receive, unload, and process incoming shipments, verifying documentation against container labels and reporting discrepancies.
- Pack and preserve items using appropriate materials, containers, and preservatives.
- Assemble items for shipment based on shipping requests and check container conditions prior to loading.
- Ensure shipments are properly loaded onto designated conveyances.
- Conduct inventories, count items, and maintain tally listings; assist in resolving discrepancies.
- Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts (up to 15,000 pounds capacity), warehouse tractors, or general-purpose vehicles.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Non-Sensitive security requirements; appointment subject to favorable suitability or fitness determination.
- Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
- Must possess or obtain a REAL ID or acceptable identification for federal facility access.
- Pre-employment physical required.
- Must obtain and maintain licenses/certifications required by installation, federal, state, and local laws, including:
- Valid state driver’s license to operate government vehicles.
- Valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
- Hazardous materials handling certifications.
Qualifications
Applicants will be evaluated based on the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. While no specific length of experience is required, you must demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills through experience and training to perform the duties. Emphasis is placed on the quality of experience rather than duration. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element will be eliminated from consideration. Experience includes paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer roles through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations.
Physical Effort
- Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
- Lifts and carries items up to 40 pounds; uses weight handling equipment or assistance for heavier items.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a warehouse environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- Exposure to hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lit conditions.
- Subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock.
- May be exposed to dusty, dirty, or greasy conditions.
