Distribution Process Worker

Duties

• Select stock and perform stow and location survey
• Conduct physical inventory and handle materials
• Examine and identify materials
• Pack and repack items using standard packing materials, methods, and techniques
• Determine appropriate packing method based on commodity/item type
• Assemble items for shipment according to shipping requests and inspect shipping containers
• Load shipments onto the correct conveyances
• Count types and quantities of items during inventories and maintain tally listings
• Recount or search other storage locations to resolve over, short, or misplaced items
• Operate material handling equipment including standard forklifts (up to 15,000 pounds), warehouse tractors, or general-purpose vehicles
• Receive, unload, and process incoming shipments
• Check documentation against container or packing labels
• Follow established procedures to report over, short, misdirected, or damaged materials

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Appointment subject to favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorably adjudicated background checks may result in removal
• FLSA: Non-Exempt
• Selective Service registration required for males born after 12-31-59
• Must obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license
• Must obtain and maintain any additional licenses and/or certifications required by installation, federal, state, and local laws
• Selectees must have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification to access certain federal facilities

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated under the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Emphasis is placed on the quality of experience and demonstrated ability to perform duties at the required level. The screen-out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of a Distribution Process Worker without more than normal supervision, including independently performing complex duties such as receiving, unloading, processing incoming shipments, selecting items for shipment, examining shipping documents, packing and repacking items, checking documentation against labels, reporting discrepancies, and routing materials.

Experience may include paid or unpaid roles, including volunteer work through recognized programs, and will be credited accordingly.

Physical Effort

• Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods
• Bends, stoops, and works in tiring or uncomfortable positions
• Lifts and carries items up to 40 pounds; uses equipment or assistance for heavier items

Working Conditions

• Works both indoors and outdoors in hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lit areas
• Exposure to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock
• Wears protective gear including steel-toed shoes, respirators, safety glasses, and earplugs
• Mechanized roller conveyors are commonly used in material routing and distribution
