About the role

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Field Technician passionate about electric utility design engineering. You'll work directly with clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for high-quality work. This position requires working through a contractor with the possibility of converting to a direct Leidos employee after 6-12 months from the initial start date.

As part of our Power Delivery Services Team, you'll join a trusted and technology-focused solutions provider serving utilities and mobile operators. We've worked with over 50 investor-owned utilities, over 160 municipals/cooperatives, and continue to expand our reach with industry-leading construction partners. Responsibilities

• Travel to collect GIS data, field measurements, and photos of utility poles identified for new communications attachments.
• Document pole locations and collect necessary data for Leidos designers to create solutions and fixes.
• Apply basic understanding of distribution systems and NESC standards; perform in-field design and engineering as required.
• Use a hasting stick or other measuring technologies to measure pole attachment heights and utility-owned distribution lines/attachments.
• Collect field data using Leidos proprietary software to update utilities GIS and make design determinations.
• Keep rental car overnight or for extended periods as needed; travel will vary weekly with occasional overnight stays.
• Meet weekly goals and expectations set by supervisors; communicate status and progress effectively.
• Perform field-related work 90-95% of the time, including significant walking in urban, rural, backyard pole lines, private properties, and Transmission and Distribution Right of Ways.
• Work outdoors year-round, following Leidos safety procedures and reporting progress daily.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 1-3 years of prior relevant experience.
• Preferred experience within the power distribution field and/or an AS/BS in engineering (or related STEM field).
• Preferred experience in GIS with knowledge of Esri products or other GIS data collection software.
• Prior experience in field work and distribution component identification is ideal.
• Ability to work in both team and independent environments and organize work to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of NESC Standards and Client Standards is helpful.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
• Ability to learn and use Apple products.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to perform both field and office work.
• Ability to work long days in outdoor environments.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to utilize cell phone and 8MP camera.

Pay

Pay Range: $40,300.00 - $72,850.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.

Schedule

• Flexible work hours based on inspection needs.
• Overnight stays may be required depending on workload; hotels can be provided for distant work locations.
• Work locations vary weekly.
