Job Duties
- Design and permit distribution lines, including drawing preparation, bill of materials development, material ordering, and conducting field visits.
- Train and mentor entry-level staff as well as perform QA/QC responsibilities.
- Lead field visits and use information to create drawings.
- Utilize various software to create overhead and underground electrical distribution designs.
- Follow local utility and construction standards.
- Able to learn, retain, and apply on-the-job training and use design software packages efficiently.
- Able to work effectively in design teams.
- Able to multitask and prioritize work.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be flexible to handle shifting deadlines and scope changes.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in CAD operations.
- Associate Degree from an accredited Technical School or equivalent experience.
- Good analytical thinking, problem-solving techniques, and computer-aided drafting (CAD) experience.

About the Role
GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Distribution CAD Operator 3 to join our Distribution group. The successful candidate must have good analytical thinking, problem-solving techniques, computer-aided drafting (CAD) experience, and excellent communication skills. The position requires minimal supervision and involves designing and permitting distribution lines, training and mentoring staff, and leading field visits. The role also includes utilizing various software to create overhead and underground electrical distribution designs, following local utility and construction standards, and working in a fast-paced environment.
General Characteristics
The ideal candidate will demonstrate accountability for time management and budget forecasting, possess advanced knowledge of CAD skills, focus on quality, perform self-reviews of work, and correct errors before submission. They should be able to work concurrently with numerous projects and personnel.
Management Responsibility
The successful candidate will provide significant oversight and mentoring to lower-level CAD Operators, receive general instructions, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Communication Skills
The Distribution CAD Operator 3 must possess excellent communication skills and be able to facilitate interactions between staff, coach, and mentor lower-level CAD staff.
Physical Requirements
The role requires ability to work indoors in professional office settings, sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks, frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment, visual acuity to read printed materials, digital screens, detailed documents, and perform detailed work, occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment, ability to move between workstations and attend in-person meetings, ability to lift and carry office materials or equipment weighing up to 10-20 pounds, with or without assistance, adequate hearing to participate in conversations, phone calls, and virtual meetings, and ability to travel for meetings, training, or business purposes.
