Dispatcher - North East, MD

About the role

The Dispatcher is responsible for scheduling and assigning rigging crews to jobs based on customer requirements and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The role also ensures rental and MEI-owned equipment and tools are assigned to crews per job requirements and scheduled for maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and schedule work crews and equipment for each job, including travel, load time, and non-job-related projects and tasks.
• Manage paperwork related to daily export packing crew responsibilities.
• Assign and dispatch work crews every morning to job sites and yard projects based on customer and MEI requirements, ensuring employees are matched to jobs/projects according to their skill set.
• Dispatch/assign equipment (MEI and rentals) and tools to crews per job requirements, including scheduling equipment repairs.
• Complete all paperwork related to equipment maintenance, issues, and repairs, including ordering permits.
• Prepare, organize, and distribute all required paperwork to appropriate groups (crew, accounting, operations management) related to jobs, change orders, crew and equipment assignments, safety, JHA’s (job hazard analysis), and equipment repairs and inspections.
• Perform data entry into software applications (WrightPlan) for labor and equipment.
• Review, edit, and adjust labor hours in the electronic timekeeping system (ADP), preparing for final review and approval by the manager.
• Update the dispatch job board daily by adding and canceling pending and confirmed jobs.
• Coordinate, track, and schedule drop-off and pick-up of all equipment and rentals related to jobs, including equipment from other MRC locations.
• Provide direct supervision of driving and rigging crews to ensure performance, safety, and MEI standards are met.
• Communicate daily with job foremen and drivers to improve scheduling and dispatch efficiency.
• Provide new hire orientation, including safety, job expectations, timekeeping, and attendance requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two (2) years of proven dispatching experience or comparable field experience, preferably within the rigging or transportation industry.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and project management skills.
• Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
• Ability to excel and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of intra- and interstate trip permit regulations.
• Knowledge of customs requirements related to export or import shipments.
• Valid and current driver’s license or ability to attain one.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Standard office environment, including work at a computer terminal.
• Extended periods of sitting and typing, with occasional walking, bending, twisting, squatting, crouching, and kneeling.
• Repetitive movements required; clear speech and good hearing necessary to communicate effectively.
• Exposure to distracting sounds and noise levels; may work in close proximity to other employees.
