Dispatcher-DOT Experience
As a Dispatcher with the C&S Family of Companies, you serve as the primary point of contact for a group of professional drivers (primarily Class A CDL holders). This role is responsible for dispatching loads and ensuring drivers are set up for success by communicating special instructions, assigning the correct equipment, and providing coordination. You will execute the day's workload, inform stakeholders of any deviations, and play a key role in fostering a culture of safety and prompt issue resolution.
Responsibilities
- Review routing and scheduling plan for the shift to ensure all assignments are covered.
- Dispatch routes and relay information, instructions, and messages to drivers.
- Ensure every driver has what they need to be successful for the day.
- If loads are uncovered, work with the team to develop a coverage plan and communicate accordingly.
- Utilize appropriate channels to clearly communicate information pertaining to daily transportation operations, including delivery adjustments, missing product, hours of service issues, and safety incidents.
- Update customer portal when applicable.
- Engage with the driver workforce to help create a best-in-class work environment.
- Promptly escalate issues to management and offer solutions for resolution.
- Update the dispatch system to ensure accuracy of information.
- Complete a debrief process with drivers upon their return, review paperwork, and make system updates as needed.
- Answer phones professionally, troubleshoot, and escalate when necessary.
- Complete daily safety observations to ensure transportation associates utilize preferred work practices.
- Ensure drivers are compliant with DOT regulations regarding Hours of Service.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience in a high-paced, dynamic environment.
- Dispatching experience is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent in General Studies.
- Strong planning, execution, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of transportation safety and DOT regulations.
- Ability to multi-task, with strong interpersonal and telephone etiquette.
- General computing ability and familiarity with CDL operations.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
