About the role
The Dispatcher is responsible for scheduling deliveries and credit returns efficiently, working with sales, yard personnel, and customers. This role coordinates between teams to support our mission of Legendary Service through Teamwork.
Pay
$24.43 - $29.12 per hour
Responsibilities
- Efficiently schedule delivery orders and credit returns
- Maintain yard cleanliness and hold team accountable for such behavior
- Introduce yourself to customers and/or vendors when the opportunity arises
- Ensure credit returns are picked up in a timely manner
- Schedule backorders as a top priority
- Conduct regular ride-alongs with drivers and job shadowing in the yard
- Acknowledge team members' great work
- Proactively seek to improve damage and cull figures
- Hold team accountable for proper usage, loss, and cleanliness of assets
- Seek tasks or training opportunities for career advancement
- Review productivity reports and identify opportunities for improvement
- Complete required Blue-Volt training in a timely manner
- Stay current on Federal and State laws regarding interstate commerce and commercial motor vehicle operation
- Efficiently schedule delivery orders and returns in DDMS
- Understand weight, height, and length limits for DOT compliance
- Use resources to seek information and partner with others to solve problems
- Open and close yard as needed
- Assist drivers with job site and road challenges
- Schedule loads to maximize OTIF (On-Time In-Full)
- Assist with yearly inventory
- Effectively manage Outlook and personal notebook
- Hold people accountable for maintaining schedule
- Communicate when overlength and overweight permits are needed
- Ensure all paperwork, licensing, permits, insurance certificates, and truck books are orderly and up to date
- Work to improve truck turn time in the yard and track team improvements
- Manage truck journey value efficiently
- Understand how to efficiently order blocks, hangers, and other supplies
- Facilitate group discussions with key members for best practices
- Seek out product transactions and order history
- Use interyard transfer system
- Prepare and submit monthly fuel and mileage reports
- Assist in management team's efforts to reduce turnover
- Assist Fleet Manager in maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-kept fleet
- Assist Driver Trainer in maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-trained staff of drivers
- Complete falcon order entry as needed
- Wear high visibility/proper uniform
- Review daily equipment inspections weekly (Trucks, brakes, cranes, trailers)
- Maintain a comfortable and safe working environment for all employees
- Proactively bring safety issues to the attention of the proper department
- Follow all company safety protocols
- Arrive on time and prepared to work
- Seek and prioritize cross-training
- Flexibility to work extended hours as needed
- Assist other team members with their work when appropriate
- Help set goals and meet company deadlines for the team
- Contribute ideas to improve processes and accept ideas from any source
- Encourage and ensure the team is always ready to help cover other yards
Requirements
- Ability to speak, write, and read English
- OSHA Certified Forklift License
- 1 year of dispatching experience
- Ability to operate a personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and other necessary equipment
- Typing speed of 30+ WPM
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of dispatching and fleet management principles, practices, and protocols
- Knowledge of dimension lumber, panel products, and other building materials
- Knowledge of home and commercial construction principles, practices, and protocols
- Ability to read and interpret maps
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day
- Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard
- Must be able to lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds, and carry objects 50 feet
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Both local and overnight travel may be required
