Dispatcher

About the role
This position coordinates and schedules all customer deliveries, managing a combination of company trucks and outside haulers. The role oversees the dispatch function, collaborating with sales, shipping/receiving, customers, delivery services, and logistics operations. Responsibilities
- Receive and process customer orders through telephone, email, and other electronic means
- Prepare a shipping schedule that maintains accountability of all outgoing and incoming shipments
- Work closely with company trucking fleet and outside haulers to meet delivery times and compliance with delivery requirements as per customer needs
- Communicate effectively with customers and truck drivers to dispatch orders in a timely and efficient manner
- Assist with route and travel time planning using familiarity with the delivery area
- Build rapport with team members, drivers, vendors, sales, operations, and customers
- Maintain customer focus and composure under stressful conditions in a fast-paced environment
- Understand NC and SC DOT/DMV regulations pertaining to shipping and transportation of building products via truck
- Use tracking and scheduling software and learn new programs as introduced
- Act quickly and creatively to solve problems; work independently and make decisions
- Display a professional, positive, and courteous attitude to coworkers, supervisors, customers, and the public
- Work in a team environment and assist with other duties as required
- Perform opening and closing procedures; prepare and review daily reports and maintain proper records according to company policy
- Available to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary; reliable attendance is essential
Requirements
- Minimum high school diploma or GED required
- Previous experience in building materials dispatch or transportation industry preferred
- Knowledge of masonry and hardscapes products, building materials, and cements is preferred
- Computer aptitude, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams, and ability to learn new computer skills
- Excellent verbal and mathematical skills
- Ability to read and understand maps and use mapping tools
- Ability to multi-task effectively
